My name is Kem Mills and I am the Director of the Food Bank at Friendship Baptist Church. I lost my children and home in a fire in June of 1998. Thanksgiving, that year, I was asked if I could collect enough food for a family. We ended up with 4 families and enough food for 8. I asked if there was any way we could have a small food bank, so if this happened again we would have food. They said there was a small room filled with junk and if I wanted to I could use it. People were telling me not to do this; “people would not come all the way out here”. God led me so fast and furious my head was spinning. In 2003 we joined the Second Harvest. Joining this we are able to receive USDA. We have 12 to 15 volunteers that work every week and many others that help when they can. We serve over 300 people a month and we put everything in God’s hands. We are very blessed.
The Food Bank is one of our most vital ministries at Friendship. The Food Bank is open each Tuesday morning at 9:30 AM. Participants must be signed in by 11:00AM.
