About us

All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
— Matthew 28:18-20

Established in 1911, Friendship Baptist Church exists to glorify God by worshiping with reverent joy, walking with one another in biblical discipleship, and winning souls to Christ in Texas and to the ends of the earth.

Our Values

  1. Christ-Centered Expository Preaching: The goal of a sermon ought not be to entertain or tickle the ears, telling people what they naturally want to hear or what the pastor just so happens to feel like preaching about that week. The goal of a sermon ought to be the exaltation of Christ through the explanation, illustration, and application of a biblical text, centering the message each week back on the truth that salvation comes by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. We seek to preach Christ from the whole counsel of God’s Word, week after week, through sequential exposition.

  2. Congregational Singing: We long to see a marriage of our modern context with ancient tradition as we regulate our worship according to Scripture, restoring the practice of Psalm singing, along with classic hymns and biblically faithful contemporary music.

  3. Covenant Membership: The Gospel doesn’t only reconcile us to God, but also to His people. The Christian life wasn’t designed to be lived in isolation, but in the covenant commitment of local church membership. We seek to walk this out with intentional discipleship, warm hospitality, bearing one another’s burdens, confessing our faults, and helping each other find healing in Christ.

  4. Courageous Outreach: C. T. Studd once said, “The light that shines farthest shines brightest nearest home.” We take the Great Commission seriously, prioritizing the roughly 7,500 unreached people groups in the 10/40 Window as well as the lost in our local communities. In Texas and to the ends of the earth, we long for Christ to be worshiped and adored.

  5. Culture of Prayer: We long for prayer to mark our church’s culture, as individuals, families, and a corporate body.

  6. Creation Mandate: We long to see our families, communities, church, and culture revolve around Christ and His Word, that all our members from all vocations would do their work as an act of worship, promoting what is good, true, and beautiful.

  7. Confessional Identity: We commit to contend for “the faith once delivered to the saints” (Jude 3). As such we affirm Sola Scriptura, that Scripture alone is the infallible authority for Christian faith and practice. We also find it helpful and necessary to clarify our Scriptural beliefs with the historic Creeds, as well as the Reformation Confessions and Catechisms (our subscriptions can be found on the “What We Believe” page).
